ECOWAS equips banks in Togo through ROGEAP.
Strengthening the capacities of national financial institutions: ECOWAS equips Togo’s banks through ROGEAP.
On Wednesday, November 12, 2026, the PFM, a consortium recruited by ECOWAS to support ROGEAP, launched a capacity-building workshop for financial institutions in Lomé, Togo!
This training is part of ROGEAP’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the capacities of commercial financial institutions in the ECOWAS region.
The objective is to enable these banks to design, manage, and develop green financing solutions for the off-grid solar energy sector.
Togo is the fourth country to benefit from this regional capacity-building series.
Over the past few months, similar training courses have been successfully organized for banks in Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, and Mali, contributing to the creation of a more robust financial ecosystem that supports sustainable access to energy in West Africa and the Sahel.
In Lomé, participants include representatives from Ecobank Togo, Coris Bank International Togo, Groupe Orabank Togo, and BSIC-Togo SA.
Throughout this three-day workshop (November 11–13, 2025), the banks invited to this workshop, whose themes focus on:
– Presentation of the BOAD credit line and guarantee mechanism for financial institutions and stakeholders in the solar energy sector;
– Green finance and innovative financing instruments;
– The design of credit products tailored to solar SMEs;
– Managing risks related to sustainable energy financing.
Experts mobilized by the PFM, and the Project Implementation Units (PIUs) set up by the ECOWAS Commission and the West African Development Bank (BOAD) are leading interactive sessions to help participating banks overcome financing constraints and develop financial products focused on the needs of off-grid solar sector customers.
As a reminder, ROGEAP is a project financed by the World Bank, the Clean Technology Fund (CTF), and the Directorate General for International Cooperation (DGIS) and implemented by the ECOWAS Commission and BOAD.
