National launch of ROGEAP in Cameroon: the project extends to Central African countries

The Ecowas Rogeap _ Regional Off-Grid Electricity Access Projectl(ROGEAP) officially started its activities this Friday, August 18, 2023 in Yaoundé, Cameroon. It was at The workshop was attended by representatives of the ECOWAS Commission, Cameroon’s Ministry of Water and Energy, the World Bank and stakeholders from the private and public sectors, including civil society organizations, professional associations, the media, NGOs and Cameroon’s commercial banks.

During the workshop, participants were given a presentation on the implementation mechanism of the ROGEAP project in the 19 member states involved in this initiative, namely the 15 ECOWAS countries and 4 others in sub-Saharan Africa: Central African Republic, Cameroon, Chad and Mauritania. The workshop also raised awareness of off-grid solar PV technologies, to facilitate the establishment of a regulatory framework conducive to the development of the off-grid solar PV market in Cameroon.

In Yaoundé, the workshop was officially launched by Mr Laurent Ngouiga, Conseiller Technique Numéro 1, representing Cameroon’s Minister of Water and Energy, in the presence of Mr Momodou NJIE, Senior Energy Specialist at the World Bank, and Mr Arnaud Kouadio BA, ROGEAP Monitoring and Evaluation Expert, representing Commissioner Sédiko Douka in charge of Infrastructure, Energy and Digitization at ECOWAS.
