Promoting off-grid solar standards in Guinea
Around thirty participants, mainly from ministries of trade and energy, national energy and standardisation bodies, as well as consumers, are meeting in Conakry, Republic of Guinea, from 25 to 26 March to launch the process of promoting off-grid solar photovoltaic standards.
This training session, which focuses on raising awareness of off-grid solar standards, follows their adoption in eight European Union countries.
The main aim of this national workshop is to ensure that the standards adopted for off-grid solar products are widely known and properly implemented at national level by stakeholders.
At the end of the two-day meeting, the various participants will:
- Have a good understanding of the quality standards for off-grid solar products and stand-alone PV kits (ECOSTAND IEC TS 62257-9-5 and ECOSTAND IEC TS 62257-9-8);
- Familiarise yourself with definitions, international quality standards and test methods for off-grid solar products and systems
- To be able to provide accurate information to the other stakeholders concerned about the two standards adopted and to raise awareness amongst the general public;
- Understand how the two standards are to be applied in accordance with current legislation;
- To be able to carry out conformity assessment of off-grid solar PV products (in accordance with relevant standards), market surveillance, and
- Disseminate information to the general public.
In their presentations, the various representatives from the Ministries of Trade and Energy thanked ECOWAS for helping Guinea to implement these standards, and undertook to disseminate them widely at all levels.
As a reminder, ‘ROGEAP’ is a project jointly funded by the World Bank, the Clean Technology Fund and the Government of the Netherlands, with total funding of almost $340 million.
It is implemented by the ECOWAS Commission through the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Digitalisation.
