Annual retreat: The Directorate-General for Energy and Mines strengthens team bonds.

Annual retreat: The Directorate-General for Energy and Mines strengthens team bonds.

As part of efforts to strengthen institutional coherence and foster synergy between initiatives to ensure greater efficiency in the implementation of programmes and projects, the DEM is holding a three-day annual retreat at Zuma Rock, in the State of Niger, from 22 to 24 April 2026. Chaired by the Acting Director of Energy and Mines, Mr William BAIDOE, the retreat brings together staff from the Directorate of Energy and Mines, staff from the Regional Coordination Unit (URC) for the REAP and BEST projects, as well as staff from the Implementation Unit for the ‘ROGEAP’ project.

In his opening remarks, the Acting Director of the DEM emphasised the importance of this meeting, which he described as a forum for consultation and constructive dialogue aimed at strategically reviewing the results achieved and the operational implementation of activities; but also an opportunity to foster cohesion, share experiences and strengthen team spirit.

The retreat will provide an opportunity to (i) present the activities carried out, analyse achievements and identify the challenges encountered, (ii) promote internal communication, strengthen team cohesion and encourage the sharing of best practice, (iii) consolidate a results-oriented culture and accountability within the Directorate, (iv) foster better coordination between teams in order to improve the effectiveness of interventions.

In short, this meeting provides an ideal forum for evaluation, forward-looking reflection and collective renewal, with a view to improving the effectiveness, coordination and overall impact of the DEM’s interventions across its various activities.

As a reminder, the Directorate of Energy and Mines (DEM) is a division of the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Digitalisation of the Commission of the ECOWAS, responsible for coordinating and harmonising the policies and programmes of Member States in the energy and mining sectors, as well as for developing and implementing technical projects for the region.
