PRAIA: ROGEAP is training key stakeholders on regional standards for off-grid solar systems with capacities < <= to 350 Wp
(ECOSTAND IEC TS 62257-9- 8 :2020 et ECOSTAND IEC TS 62257-9-5 :2018)
PRAIA, (April 8, 2026).
The capital of Cape Verde hosted a national workshop organized by ROGEAP on the implementation of regional standards for off-grid solar photovoltaic systems. This workshop, held from April 8 to 9, 2026, is the logical next step in a series of workshops held in the 19 countries covered by ROGEAP.
The opening ceremony took place in the presence of officials from the Republic of Cape Verde and ECOWAS, represented by the Senior Advisor to ROGEAP, who was acting on behalf of the Commission President. On this occasion, Mr. El Hadji Sylla reiterated the project’s commitment to supporting countries in effectively adopting these standards, which were adopted by the ECOWAS Council of Ministers.
This two-day workshop, which brought together over thirty experts from the public and private sectors, finance and trade ministry officials, civil society and SMEs, among others, is a logical follow-up to the workshops held recently in other countries.
At the end of this awareness-raising and capacity-building workshop, participants should have a good understanding of the quality standards for off-grid solar products (ECOSTAND IEC TS 62257-9-5 and ECOSTAND IEC TS 62257-9-8);
They will also learn about definitions, international quality standards and test methods for off-grid solar products and systems;
Finally, they will be able to provide correct information to the other stakeholders concerned about the two standards adopted and to raise awareness among the general public;
As a reminder, the ECOWAS Commission, through the Regional Off-Grid Electricity Access Project (ROGEAP), is supporting the 19 countries in the project to increase the rate of access to electricity for households, businesses and public institutions through modern stand-alone solar systems, using a harmonized regional approach.
ROGEAP is a project funded by the World Bank, the Clean Technology Fund (CTF) and the Directorate General for International Cooperation (DGIS), and implemented by the ECOWAS Commission through the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Digitization and BOAD.
