Regional capacity-building workshops for experts from member states of the ROGEAP
Regional capacity-building workshops for experts from member states of the ROGEAP on standards for domestic solar power kits with a capacity of up to 350 watts.
As part of the implementation of the Regional Off-Grid Electricity Access Project (ROGEAP), the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Digitalisation of the ECOWAS is organising a series of regional capacity-building workshops for experts from the countries covered by the project on standards for domestic solar kits.
Niamey, in Niger, Lomé, in Togo, and Accra, in Ghana, are the three cities selected to host the regional seminars in May 2023, which will be led by experts from the ROGEAP, the Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency at the ECOWAS (ECREEE) and VERASOL, a diverse network of organisations, institutions and programmes established to improve the quality and availability of modern off-grid solar solutions worldwide.
Niamey, the capital of Niger, will host the first regional capacity-building seminar for the first group of French-speaking countries from 3 to 5 May. This will be followed by the second seminar, to be held from 9 to 11 May in Accra, Ghana, for English-speaking countries, and finally the third, to be held from 16 to 19 May in Lomé, in Togo, for the second group of French- and Portuguese-speaking countries.
The main objective of this activity is to provide the necessary technical assistance to experts from the Rural Electrification Agencies and/Renewable Energy Agencies and the Standardisation Agencies responsible for off-grid systems in the Member States of the ECOWAS, with a view to building capacity regarding the drafting of the ECOSTAND IEC TS 62257-9-8:2020 and ECOSTAND IEC TS 62257-9-5:2018, relating to off-grid domestic solar systems up to 350 Wp and their laboratory testing methods.
