National launch of the ‘ROGEAP’ in Cameroon: the project is expanding into countries in Central Africa

The ECOWAS ROGEAP – Regional Off-Grid Electricity Access Project (ROGEAP) officially launched its activities on Friday 18 August 2023 in Yaoundé, Cameroon. This took place during an awareness-raising workshop attended by representatives from the ECOWAS Commission, Cameroon’s Ministry of Water and Energy, the World Bank, and stakeholders from the private and public sectors, including civil society organisations, professional associations, the media, NGOs and commercial banks in Cameroon.

During this workshop, participants had the opportunity to attend a presentation on the implementation mechanism for the ‘ROGEAP’ project across the 19 Member States involved in this initiative, namely the 15 countries of the ‘ECOWAS’ and four other sub-Saharan African countries: the Central African Republic, Cameroon, Chad and Mauritania. The workshop also served to raise awareness amongst stakeholders about off-grid solar PV technologies, with a view to facilitating the establishment of a regulatory framework conducive to the development of the market for off-grid solar PV products in Cameroon.

In Yaoundé, the workshop was officially opened by Mr Laurent NGOUIGA, Chief Technical Adviser, representing Cameroon’s Minister for Water and Energy, in the presence of Mr Momodou NJIE, Senior Energy Specialist at the World Bank, and Mr Arnaud KOUADIO BA, Monitoring and Evaluation Expert at theROGEAP (National Water and Sanitation Agency), representing Commissioner Sédiko DOUKA, responsible for Infrastructure, Energy and Digitalisation at theECOWAS (National Water and Sanitation Agency).
