WAPP and ASEA Form a Historic Partnership to Boost Energy Integration in Africa

The WAPP (West African Power Pool) and the ASEA (Association of African Electricity Companies) have joined forces in a historic agreement aimed at boosting energy integration across Africa. This strategic partnership is committed to eliminating duplication of effort and maximising benefits for their respective members.

The memorandum of understanding establishes a robust framework for collaboration over a six-year period, setting up a cooperation committee and regular meetings to ensure effective follow-up. The areas of cooperation cover a wide range, from strengthening institutional links to developing specialised training programmes and the valuable exchange of technical expertise.

The primary objective of this alliance is to jointly stimulate research and development, foster knowledge management and support the growth of training centres in the field of electricity. By working together, these two institutions aim to promote a culture of innovation and excellence in the energy sector.

This strategic partnership represents a significant step towards closer energy integration on the African continent, thereby fostering sustainable development at a regional level.

During the signing ceremony, the two (2) heads of institution highlighted the importance of capacity building and human capital development for the success of electricity integration in Africa and emphasised the need to develop the WAPP Regional Centres of Excellence to enable them to effectively deliver training for stakeholders in the electricity sector.
