WAPP and ASEA have formed a landmark partnership to drive forward energy integration in Africa

The WAPP (West African Power Pool) and the ASEA (Association of Electricity Utilities of Africa) have joined forces in a historic agreement to drive forward energy integration in Africa. This strategic partnership is committed to eliminating duplication of effort and maximising benefits for their respective members.

The memorandum of understanding establishes a solid framework for collaboration over a six-year period, creating a cooperation committee and providing for regular meetings to ensure effective monitoring. The areas of cooperation cover a wide range, from strengthening institutional relations to developing specialised training programmes and the valuable exchange of technical expertise.

The main objective of this alliance is to jointly stimulate research and development, promote knowledge management and support the development of training centres in the field of electricity. By working together, these two institutions aim to foster a culture of innovation and excellence in the energy sector.

This strategic partnership represents a significant step towards greater energy integration on the African continent, promoting sustainable development at a regional level.

During the signing ceremony, the two (2) Heads of Institution emphasised the importance of capacity-building and human capital development for the successful integration of the electricity sector in Africa, and stressed the need to develop the WAPP Regional Centres of Excellence so that they can provide effective training to stakeholders in the electricity sector.
