Popularizing off-grid solar photovoltaic standards: ECOWAS, through ROGEAP, trains and raises awareness among stakeholders in Cameroon.c

Some thirty participants, mainly from the Ministries of Energy, Industry and Trade and other national structures such as standardization agencies, rural electrification, renewable energies, the private sector and consumer associations, met in Yaoundé, Republic of Cameroon, from May 26 to 27, 2025, for training and awareness-raising on off-grid solar photovoltaic standards as part of the ROGEAP project.
(ECOSTAND IEC TS 62257-9-5 et ECOSTAND IEC TS 62257-9-8).
The main aim of the workshop was to familiarize the various national players with the two standards for off-grid solar photovoltaic products up to 350Wp (ECOSTAND IEC TS 62257-9-5 and ECOSTAND IEC TS 62257-9-8), so as to facilitate their implementation at national level.
At the end of the two-day conclave, the various participants :
- Have a good understanding of quality standards for off-grid solar products and stand-alone PV kits) ;
- Familiarize yourself with definitions, quality standards and test methods;
- To be able to provide correct information to the other stakeholders concerned about the two standards adopted and to be able to raise awareness among the general public;
- Know how the two standards are to be applied in accordance with current legislation;
- Be able to carry out conformity assessment of off-grid solar PV products (applicable to standards), market surveillance and ;
- Disseminate information to the general public.
In their presentations, the various representatives of the Ministries of Trade and Energy thanked ECOWAS for helping Cameroon to implement these standards, and pledged to disseminate them widely at all levels.
Following Yaoundé, the standards dissemination caravan will head to Douala for the same exercise from the 29th to the 30th.
As a reminder, ROGEAP is a project jointly funded by the World Bank, the Clean Technology Fund and the Government of the Netherlands, and covers 19 countries in Saharan Africa.
It is implemented by the ECOWAS Commission through the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Digitization.
