ROGEAP provides information, raises awareness and trains key stakeholders on regional standards for solar systems
ROGEAP disseminates information, raises awareness and provides training for key stakeholders on regional standards for off-grid solar systems with a power rating of 350 Wp or less (ECOSTAND IEC TS 62257-9- 8:2020 and ECOSTAND IEC TS 62257-9-5:2018).
Bangui, (9 September 2025).
Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic, will host a national seminar from 9 to 10 September 2025, organised by theROGEAP, on the implementation of regional standards for off-grid solar photovoltaic systems.
The opening ceremony was attended by Gérard ZOUNGUERE WILIKON, Chief of Staff at the Ministry of Energy, accompanied by El Hadji Sylla, Director-General of the National Centre for the Promotion of Energy (ROGEAP), Monyl TOGA, World Bank Project Manager.
Around thirty people are taking part in this two-day seminar, representing the public and private sectors, officials from the ministries of finance and trade, civil society and SMEs, amongst others.
By the end of this awareness-raising and capacity-building workshop, participants will have a good understanding of the quality standards for off-grid solar products (ECOSTAND IEC TS 62257-9-5 and ECOSTAND IEC TS 62257-9-8);
They will also learn about the definitions, international quality standards and test methods for off-grid solar products and systems;
Finally, they will be able to provide accurate information to other stakeholders on the two standards adopted and raise awareness amongst the general public;
It should be noted that the ECOWAS Commission, through the Regional Off-Grid Electricity Access Project (ROGEAP), is helping the 19 countries involved in the project to increase the rate of access to electricity for households, businesses and public institutions through modern off-grid solar systems, using a harmonised regional approach.
ROGEAPis a project funded by the World Bank, the Clean Technology Fund (CTF) and the Directorate-General for International Cooperation (DGIS), and implemented by the Commission of the ECOWAS through the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Digitalisation and the BOAD.
