Raising awareness of off-grid solar standards in Guinea

Raising awareness of off-grid solar standards in Guinea

 Around thirty participants, mainly from the ministries of trade and energy, national energy and standardisation bodies, as well as consumers, are meeting in Conakry, in the Republic of Guinea, from 25 to 26 March to launch the process of promoting off-grid solar photovoltaic standards.

This training session, which focuses on raising awareness of off-grid solar standards, follows their adoption in eight countries within the European Union.

The main aim of this national workshop is to ensure that the standards adopted for off-grid solar products are well understood and properly implemented at national level by stakeholders.

At the end of this two-day meeting, the various participants will be required to:

  • Have a good understanding of the quality standards for off-grid solar products and stand-alone PV kits (ECOSTAND IEC TS 62257-9-5 and ECOSTAND IEC TS 62257-9-8);
  •  To familiarise oneself with the definitions, international quality standards and test methods for off-grid solar products and systems
  • To be able to provide accurate information to other relevant stakeholders regarding the two adopted standards and to raise awareness amongst the general public;
  •   To understand how the two standards are to be implemented in accordance with current legislation;
  •  To be able to carry out conformity assessments of off-grid PV solar products (in accordance with standards), market surveillance and
  •   To be able to disseminate information to the general public.

In their statements, the various representatives from the Ministries of Trade and Energy thanked the Organisation for the Co-operation and Development of African Trade (ECOWAS) for assisting Guinea with the implementation of these standards and undertook to ensure their widespread dissemination at all levels.

As a reminder, the ‘ROGEAP’ is a project jointly funded by the World Bank, the Clean Technology Fund and the Government of the Netherlands, with total funding of nearly 340 million dollars.

It is implemented by the Commission for the Development of the ‘ECOWAS’ through the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Digitalisation.
