ECOWAS supplies banks in Togo through ROGEAP.

Strengthening the capacity of national financial institutions: the ‘ECOWAS’, through the ‘ROGEAP’, is equipping Togo’s banks.

On Wednesday 12 November 2026, PFM, a consortium commissioned by the ECOWAS to support the ROGEAP, launched a capacity-building workshop for financial institutions in Lomé, Togo!

This training programme forms part of theROGEAP’s ongoing efforts to build the capacity of commercial financial institutions in the ECOWAS region ECOWAS

The aim is to enable these banks to design, manage and develop green finance solutions for the off-grid solar energy sector.

Togo is the fourth country to benefit from this regional capacity-building programme.

In recent months, similar training programmes have been successfully organised for banks in Benin, Côte d’Ivoire and Mali, thereby helping to create a more robust financial ecosystem that supports sustainable access to energy in West Africa and the Sahel.

In Lomé, participants include representatives from Ecobank Togo, Coris Bank International Togo, Groupe Orabank Togo and BSIC-Togo SA.

Throughout this three-day workshop (11 to 13 November 2025), the banks invited to take part, the topics of which are:

– Presentation of the BOAD credit facility and the guarantee scheme for financial institutions and stakeholders in the solar energy sector;

– Green finance and innovative financing instruments;

– The design of credit products tailored to SMEs in the solar sector;

– Management of risks associated with sustainable energy financing.

The experts mobilised by the PFM and the Project Implementation Units (PIUs) established by the Commission of the ‘ECOWAS’ and the West African Development Bank (BOAD) are conducting interactive sessions to help participating banks overcome financing constraints and develop financial products tailored to the needs of customers in the off-grid solar sector.

It should be noted that the ‘ROGEAP’ is a project funded by the World Bank, the Clean Technology Fund (CTF) and the Directorate-General for International Cooperation (DGIS), and implemented by the Commission of the ‘ECOWAS’ and BOAD.
